I have noticed an interesting trend in the outside back selections of the top 10 teams in the Fantasy Rugby competition over the last few weeks, they all seem to include a winger from the team who has the pleasure of playing the woeful Bulls that week!
Two weeks ago it was Joeli Vidiri picking up four tries against them, last week it was Marika Vunibaka with three and it wouldn't surprise me if Jeff Wilson dots down once or twice this weekend. Grabbing some of these guys can really make it easy to pick up the 4+ tries bonus points for the week and of course having the guy who kicks all the conversions in these matches isn't a bad idea either!
Matchups of the Round
(applying our own
past advice)
Picking the dominant teams this week is pretty tricky. The two matches that have the potential to be one-sided are the Crusaders at home to the struggling Waratahs and the Highlanders paying a visit to the battered Bulls in Pretoria. Even these matches aren't sure-things though, the Crusaders are without their little general Mehrtens and the Bulls may well be a different proposition at home for a Highlanders team who aren't exactly on fire. Even so there are pretty good odds that the outside backs for the Crusaders and Highlanders will run in a few tries and their goal kickers will get a work out as well, keep an eye on young Aaron Mauger who is expected to start in place of Mehrtens, although Leon MacDonald is likely and take over the goal kicking duties.
It would take a brave man to confidently pick a winner in the other matches this round, my advice would be to stick with the tried and true guys from the top teams, they shouldn't let you down.
Bargins of the Round
(applying our own
past advice)
As mentioned above Aaron Mauger could be the steal of the round, he is one of the cheapest players in the competition at the moment and he hit the top 30 list last week in only 45 minutes of game time. He will get a full game this week for the Crusaders against the Waratahs.
Braam van Straaten is still a bargin and now that the Stormers are back home he is looking very confident, if you didn't already grab him last week (and it appears not many did) then he could be a great replacement for those of you who have to drop the injured Mehrtens or Flatley.
Phil Waugh had a huge week for the Waratahs last week (I think he was the only NSW forward in the game!), and he is still dirt cheap. Even if you don't need a bargin he is hard to go past in the Loose Forwards, expect him to have a big week against the Crusaders.
