Scotland vs Japan
Sunday Oct 12 8pm
Dairy Farmers Stadium
Townsville
Fulltime Scotland 32 Japan 11
Halftime Scotland 15 Japan 6
In a word, Scotland were dreadful. Why on earth I'm going to Brisbane to watch them for another 80 minutes is mind blowing.
Scotland started this game really well and scored two good individual tries in the opening 23 minutes to lead 12-6. Another Patterson penalty took them to the break.
The next 25 minutes must have felt like Glencoe to the Scots and Pearl Harbour to Japan. They threw the lot at the Scots and were rewarded with a try to Onozawa in the corner to close the gap to 15 - 11.
With 15 minutes to go, the crowd and TV commentators, all sensed an upset imminent.
But like BannockBurn, the Scots rallied and scored a rather lucky second try to Patterson and led 20 - 11.
Two final death swords followed in the last 5 minutes to flatter the Scots winning margin.
On this performance I think Scotland vs Fiji will be " Glencoe Two " in the making.
