Follow the main road to Akaroa from Christchurch (S.H. 75), driving through Tai Tapu, and Little River through to Cooptown. (See map below.) Then up the hill past the Hill Top Tavern and down again. At the bottom of the hill, just before Barry's Bay Cheese factory, turn right on to the road to Wainui and French Farm. This road takes you to Tikao Bay.

Follow that road through French Farm Bay and up the steep hill. Look out for the signs for Country Cottage Gardens - you're nearly there. Drive past the old quarry on the right and around the next bend you will see the Bay on your left and the signs for Tikao Bay and Telfer's B&B. Turn left over the cattle-stop and drive down the road carefully; it is very steep in parts. The Telfer's house is on the left, number 43, with a concrete driveway.
